Striving for tomorrow!

As I was evaluating the next topic for our blog, I started thinking about the importance of reducing food waste. Since I wasn’t very familiar with the topic, I began my research to determine if our society was being confronted with this problem and if so what would be the resolution. According to LeanPath over 33 million tons of food reached the US landfills in 2010. But why should we care? Does it impact our daily life?

Various studies presented in the book American Wasteland: How America Throws Away Nearly Half of Its Food by Jonathan Bloom estimate that 25% of the food that is purchased and taken into US homes is wasted. According to the EPA between 4% and 10% of the food purchased by the food services in the US never reaches a plate.

I have come to the realization that wasting food impacts each aspect of our life. It not only impacts us from a financial perspective, but it imposes additional labor, energy, and over purchasing costs. I invite you to reflect on this issue silently as I conclude my blog with this short video. Our daily choices determine tomorrow’s future!
