Creating a sustainable future!
In retrospect for this week’s blog, I wanted to share with you exciting information about the Ivanhap Solar Electric Plant. As you’ve probably read in the official news release:
"Ivanpah, which accounts for nearly 30 percent of all solar thermal energy currently operational in the US, is the largest solar project of its kind in the world. The project is the first to use BrightSource’s innovative solar power tower technology to produce electricity, which includes 173,500 heliostats that follow the sun’s trajectory, solar field integration software and a solar receiver steam generator" (i.e. NRG Energy Services, 2014).
According to the news release, the Ivanpah Solar provides solar electricity to about 140,000 California homes during peak hours of the day, and by doing so California avoids 400,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year (i.e. NRG Energy Services, 2014).
Ivanhap Solar Electric Plant produces electricity by creating high temperature steam to turn a conventional combine, however instead of burning fossil fuels to create steam; the sun is utilized as fuel (i.e. NRG Energy Services, 2014).
The short video shows how the Ivanhap Solar Electric Plant was built.
Let's be part of sustainable living! Together we can achieve great things!
